The lead barely worked at all - any pictures on the from the consoles were either very dark or no pictures at all. There was sound however.

All I got was sound and no picture. Tried it on different tv's, made no difference. Sent back and got full refund.

This cable works for the GameCube fine, but when plugged into a PAL Super Nintendo, it gives a picture for a second and then it slowly fades to black. Apparently this is because even though the connectors are the same, a GameCube RGB cable has differences to a SNES one, so be aware. I only discovered this after buying it...

The image quality is ridiculous, a lot of interference on video and washed colours.No sound, avoid at all costs

You have to remove three of the capacitors on the scart plug. There were actually four on mine but that extra one can be left. It is obvious which three as they are in line with three of the wires. Wire - > capacitor - > pin. The other capacitor jumps pins and has a diode. The other three are simple in-line jobs. Remove the capacitor and resolder the wire to the pin. Job done. Might not be what you want to do but it's easy enough if you know how to solder.
